I think there are some holes in the Apple line-up. Here's my mind map from Gliffy showing the line-up with my suggested new products in red.
I'm suggesting a small-end laptop called a MacBook Mini and a larger iPod-type tablet called an iPod Touch Pro. Both fit into the current naming scheme and product line-up.
I think both of these would be great for education. Personally, I think I'd rather have an iPod Touch Pro. Here's what it should have:
- iPod Touch OS
- 8"-10" Multi-touch screen
- Ability to be networked
- App. Store
- USB port-connecting keyboard for real writing assignments
- Built-in camera
- Some sort of stand
- Video/audio out
- 8 hour battery life
I'm not really techie on the mechanics. However, from a teacher point of view, the real drawback of the current iPod Touch is the screen size and the lack of input options. I just can't see typing more than a few lines with the on-screen keyboard.
Mr. Jobs, if you're reading this, I'll gladly beta test either the netbook or the tablet. I need a set of 26 for my class to share. Thank you!
